3DS Import Problem

3DS Import Problem

Hi friends,
I tried all export methods in 3Ds Max. I create some mesh in 3Ds Max. I import in irrEdit but 3ds importer in irrlicht doesn't work correctly for all mesh. I use another program wihtout IrrEdit for import this meshes they are working correctly. I think irrlicht’s 3DS importer have got some bugs. Doesn’t it?

Could you help me. Because i have got a big problem for import 3ds. All meshes are not looking good in irrEdit. They are looking cartoon.

The 3ds loader does not support smoothing groups, hence your 3ds files get some flat shading. Use any other supported format to remedy this problem.

We converted 3DS to X but that problem is continue. How can we cancel yhe smoothing groups in 3dmax? or why the irrlicht's engine cant support it? we have got a commercial licence but this problem is hitching our works now. Please help.

.x does support per-vertex normals, so the problem should be absent with that format. Can you upload the meshes somewhere?

You can convert This is 3DMax Files to X Files with Panda 3DMax 3DS to X Convert Plug-in. Or another method. My converted files gives the same results.

Yes, I get the same display for the latest SVN loader. So no help at the moment, and I doubt that this will be fixed anytime soon. Maybe try to export to other formats. For static objects .obj s a good choice, otherwise try b3d or .x.

I tried .OBJ it is better than .X or .3DS. But not looks reality. it likes cartoon :( If i knew this bug I didnt buy commercial licence. so all works hitched. What can i use any curtain or what can i draw any curtain for irrlicht can support?

Please upload the new mesh and screenshots. In case you don't export vertex normals, all faces are again flat. The same holds for recalculated normals, which were not possible for .obj in the 1.4 stable version (but might be in 1.4.1, I'm not sure).

What is this 'commercial license' you're referring to? I thought Irrlicht was free for commercial uses?

You think wrong. I mean IRREdit's Com. Lic.

So what can we do? Can you fixed that problem :S

The file does neither contain .obj nor .x files. Cannot help...
