I'm new to all this 3D graphics stuff, sorry if my question's too obvious...
So last night I downloaded Irrlicht and ran the techdemo, and I noticed that as the architecture recedes into the distance, the textures seem to be rendered differently, or something. I imagine it's just to spend more rendering time on close-up objects, but to me the transitions were very jarring, like clear horizontal lines that stay fixed relative to my FOV.
Is this an affliction of all Irrlicht apps, or just the techdemo? What causes it? Is there a simple way to prevent it? If anything I make with Irrlicht is doomed to look like that, I'm going to have to learn a different engine.
Lines in viewfield?
Are you talking about the far clipping plane?
Yes, you can change that.
Yes, you can change that.
Code: Select all
virtual void irr::scene::ICameraSceneNode::setFarValue ( f32 zf ) [pure virtual]
Sets the value of the far clipping plane (default: 2000.0f)
Parameters:
zf: New z far value.
Crud, how do I do this again?

Would you rather Niko spent his time making the tech demo the dog's, or would you rather the engine was developed in that time? Know which I would like
I think it serves it purpose, both showing the engine at work and more detailed code to cover than the tutorials. Could be better though, you are right about that. If you felt up for it, I'm sure Niko wouldn't mind if you produced a more detailed tech demo showing more features of the engine.

I think at this time our projects should be the demos for the world, so all should show them to the world and write that they are based on irrlicht and include the irrlicht-icon at start. Community, show your cool projects/games/applications youre hammering and screwing in your garage ;-)
