hi.

I searching for graphic artists i.e people which are able to create very very simple .3ds models(for example a horse, a wersten style army man, a cannon also western style).

i code with 5 other people a retro game called north& south

http://images.google.de/images?q=north ... gle-Suche
this shots are from the old game.

the game is a coding project for my university(where we should learn team working, software engineering...etc).

but the big problem is not the coding because irrlicht is a very powerful engine the big trouble is the graphic work....

we cannot offer money for your work, because it is not a commercial project...
but if you like to work with a very motivated team, please drop me a mail at

ich2(at)delikon(d0t)de

And i like again point out that the models and graphic can be simple as you want, and you can decide mainly how the models should look like....

best regards , Stefan

heh ..that look sweet. Normaly I don't do this kind of things since I spend my free time modeling for myself but I can offer some help. Perhaps I can make one-two models for you.

Only thing I ask is that you provide me with reference pictures ...I am sort of military history fan but American civil war was not interesting me too much till now and I don't want to spend ours at internet or library to figure out howe cavaleryman looked like or what weapons he was armed with.

If you want to see my work, look at gallery at my webpage or here: http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/ ... php?t=2872

Here is prgres so far:

I did not have too much time but perhaps you can tell me your opinion before I continue. He still need rifle and texture. I would need to know howe good texture should look like. For example in which resolution it shuld be.

When I was looking at internet for US civil war uniform I found out that both sides used wide wariety of uniforms and ofthen they were wery similar. So I sugest to make one soldier for both sides and use 2. diferent textures ...dark blue with bright blue trousers for federate and gray for confederate.

Let me know if it is what you need or if you have some demands/changes...

Hey,
I'm one of those guys working on that game. Well the soldiere... - good job!
It's really nice modelled. I don't know how many polys can be drawn by the engine without too heavy frame drops. But i guess it is able to deal with 15000+ Polys on avarage Hardware (like GeForce 3,4), isn't it!? Otherwise we could run into trouble because each player has several soldiers, cannons and cavalry. But I like the look and the details like the water bottle. Once again, good job and I'm looking forward to seeing the textures on that guy.

ps: in the picture - did you use cel-shading or is the wireframe just bold?

thanks Bo,
I was trying to keep polys as low as possible. I can still optimize it and cutt around 100 polys. Beyond that it would need totaly diferent modeling aproach. (I can remodel it if needed, no problem)

Howe many units (soldiers, artilery, cavalery) per side do you expect? From howe close you will view your units? ...far away, close look ....? Basicly you gona view individual units or unit formations?

Do you know game "Shogun Total War" / "Medieval Total War" ...is that what you gona do or you need something like "Bravehart"?

...yes, it is just wireframe which is so bold ;)

Hey once again,
we discussed the poly-issue and reached the conclusion that it won't be a problem. Our battlefield is shown from a static perspective. That is why you won't see the models from very close but as you increase the resolution you'll see every detail.
I guess that there will be approximately 16 infantry guys, 10 cavalry units and 6 artillery cannons at once on the screen. Since the engine should get by with that your model is just fine.

We don't have anything like "Shogun" in mind where big fights with thousands of people are shown

OK, those are not too high numbers ...I also think it should be OK. Anyway I'll still try to optimize it a little bit.

How cool is that!? 8)
The texture looks nice. Very detailed and apposite.
Do you think you can finish it till tuesday (7.12.)? That would be awesome.
Thanks a lot for your effort.

yeah - that guy rocks.
The worldmap-view looks much nicer now. It's really a big improvemnt to how it looked before. I'm really looking forward to seeing that guy in action on the jump&run part.

well thank you so much - tell me if you happen to make or have already made a horse, too

Glad you like it. Well I already downloaded some reference pictures of horses but did not started to work on it yet. You know, Christmas time is closing and free time is spare :) ...if all goes well I will work on it this weekend.
