Support, donate....

It seems I took Irrlicht a little more seriously. It has been enjoyable so have used it more. I did notice yesterday that the sourceforge site had connection issues. It made me wonder about server costs or even the work to improve Irrlicht that might go unnoticed. Some people may make money from selling their game... But if you're doing it for some other reason, what's the chances of offering some pennies? I bet I'm told sourceforge is a site in itself and actually costs you main devs nothing. Worry over.

I did pay a couple of dollars for Armory (Blender3D engine) every time a new version was out, but was later told the dev quit. The money wasn't going anywhere. With Unity I paid for assets and such. I used Maya Creative a little bit which wasn't cheap. Of course if I like Irrlicht engine I'd like it around for a while. Don't expect lots of money as I'm a little short. Tell me you are all very modest and humble devs!

Yeah, SF often has problems. But we're not just there because of costs but because it's kinda independent of single developer controlling it. So when people quit the next guys can just continue. So this forum for example has been up already for over 20 years.

When the forum has troubles - either reload a few times or just wait a few hours until it's working again. And when things go really wrong then I usually ask Yoran to help out. And he managed to keep the site up for at least a decade or so by now.

I don't directly make money with Irrlicht, but I use it in my freelance jobs most days. So for now I'm fine.

Fine is such a beautiful word. It brightens me up and scared me half to death.

I won't post another thread about this, but looking at the Win32 example... Technically a Win32 app can be uploaded to the Microsoft Store and the game be released for free (or sold). I did read Microsoft kept up the Win32 support and even today (maybe with an .msi installer) it is possible to upload that way.

If your freelance work can start to rocket into space, it'll go from fine to awesome. We all want to be recognised somehow. I'd like a successful game myself (after beating down on games so much and so hard). It's a pleasure to code games even though there are "serious" softwares out there).

Sometimes I ramble. I will try to be clearer in messages in future.

I'll look around to find an online tipping site somewhere. If I private message you a passcode, I think a little thank you may help things. I like giving for hard work.

Thanks, but seriously, no need. I totally selfishly work on Irrlicht because I actually use the engine myself.

Don't send people unexpected gifts. If they need money they will ask you

It was okay for me to "let go" of money, but I'm always suspect of emails and links, so if the table were turned and I "take by clicking a link(!)" I can see why it's a silly offer.

Maybe the point is, there are no ways to send money like that

Does this mean an open source type?

I saw a BT van (big phone company) go past me with "we make the net work" and was surprised I forget how they work hard to keep us happy.

Nice that sites exist. Too much to be grateful for :o

A little CC0 here and MIT there... (I mean zlib)

But to be fair (Noie?) I do pay a monthly bill for internet and phone SIM. And many more. It's a hard decision to stick to one or the other. I read a story about a JavaScript developer who changed his/her mind years later.

I think the only thing I would pay for now, would be to build a raspberry pi or something similar to run the game I will make in irrlicht using the renderer software lmao

I wonder if this combination will work.... mmm.... just need to create a controller and something to hold the screen like a selfie stick from a controller... big controller mmm.... don't know, maybe irrlichtxbox 360

I recently saw a 40 dollar console called r36H with linux, it is more uncomfortable but it is more portable and cheaper mmm.... Will it run irrlicht?

They should bring a mini fan maybe....

Noie, the AliExpress links href to irrlicht.com and not AliExpress.

I have an ATMega16, PIC16F, breadboards, Snap programmer, wires, USB TTL boards (DTR, RX, TX, Vcc, CTS & Gnd), soldering iron, GOGGLES, heat proof mat, wire gripper, LEDs and other bits.

I could never program a chip with MPLAB or the open source alternatives.

I wanted to make a light display with lights and a 4017B and 555, but like the Digital Audio Workstation stuff - it's something long gone or maybe later in life.

I thing adding a link works fine if you include the "http(s)://" at the start of the line: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/10050036 ... pt=glo2deu.

At the moment I don't have time to play around with it, but I wanted to give porting MarbleGP (and the YAISE editor) to the Raspberry Pi a try (I will add information to the related threads of course). That why I have a (not yet finised) Pi 5 lying around somewhere

thanks, I also read that there are many scams on a_l_i_ex_pr_ess, they sell non-existent products, with buyers who are themselves to gain reputation, so ... only buy from those who have too many purchases, more than 1000 for example and who has a long time selling, more than a year at least.
