Animated Textures

Post by Dogs »

Hello its been a while that I have posted and I see that the engine has progresses a long way as well...
I never could figure out how to animate a texture on a mesh..
Id like to just be able to make running water effects down a simple plane or across a very large plane and create simulators for the envoirnment..
They are basically large squares that contain a large water plane with a texture being animated across it and a chunk of land that is the same size as the water plane.. Then as you come closer to the edge of the simulator it loads the next one into view and removes the ones that are not in view..

Anyway animating a texture on a large plane is the only way I can see making such large water planes... I tried making planes that large with the hill mesh and creating water with it.. its great for small areas but will pull the engine or your system to a hault very fast if you go to large lol..
I dont have a slow computer either.. so anyone else that may want to run this applicaion will surley be in for a disapointment if I cant find a way to animate a texture insted....
Im sure im going to get the answer of why dont i just create a animated texture and use that.. I dont see why not this engine should not be able to do it and if not why it hasnt been implemented...

Im sure ive overlooked it and its allready able to be done..
Anyone with info on how do create something like this id love to hear about it..
Also this water will need to use alpha transparencys as well..
Water isnt fully solid in real life lol..

Thanks everyone for your help..

Thanks for this interesting class...
Ill add it into the files and try out the example..
If it works good ill post back and let everyone know that it worked..
Thing that worries me about it is that it looks like it might be in frames and may not be very smooth for water.. But maybe it can be worked with to smooth it out...

Thanks for you great help..
Anymore info would be great thanks everyone..
