Looking for good (free) music...

Post by AutoDMC »

Howdy folks;

I was wondering if anybody knew of a place where I could request some music like I'm doing here.

I've looked at FreeplayMusic.com, and found quite a few interesting musics there (I happen to like November News myself, but then again I like industrial/news musics!) However, they want licencing fees for their music (royalty free I guess means no per unit royalty, not no fee royalty).

Really, what I'm looking for is a theme for a Star Fox Assault style game; the music should be in the class of Star Fox / Star Trek / Back To The Future, with that orchestral feel.

I know many people do Video Game Music Remixes, and many sequence their own music... I just don't know how to contact anybody and try to get some pro bono work :D

I think that unless you make your own music or know a friend with musical ability who would like to donate, you are going to have to pay a royalty at some point for professional grade music :(

I wonder might it be slightly more legal to use just a sound bite? Not the whole song but just 25-30 seconds of it.

That's too bad. I was hoping somebody would know a musicians community or something...

I'd like to use some of the Freeplay stuff; but I don't want to have to pay the royalties. The music is good, and I would pay for it... if I had the money, OR the future belief that I would be paid :D

I used to use Game Maker (www.gamemaker.nl) and their forum has a Music/Sound section. I posted a topic asking for some good 3d fps (halo type) music with a military feel to it.

And I got two people who made full leangth custom songs in mp3 format. Both of the songs were of very high quality and they fit exactly what I was looking for.

Anyway, my point is, try posting there and ask for something specific (like mp3 format, style, length, etc) and i'm sure someone will make you a peice of good work. :D

archive.org has some good music with creative commons licenses. I'm using some nice dark tracks from "Opus Instrumentalus- Movie Musica" by Trance Blackman in my project
