Terrain and terregan

Post by Megan »

I need to make a seven contenet world with wide oceans and big land masses and islands. This world must have mountains, volcanos, forested, rivers, hot springs swamps desserts, practicly every terrain. Can you teach me this or email me the file if you.ve already done this. also can you tell me how to programe my characters in this realm with visual basic.or C++ My name is Megan E-mail darkdragon8691@netscape.net

The largest mass of land created in a game EVER is about 15 squared scaled kilometers.

Good Luck with that! :P

In my terrain tile manager, I've succesfully loaded 64 1025x1025 tiles ( 8 x 8 ). I'll be releasing it soon, within a week or 2 to the irrlicht community, as well as other updates to the terrain node.

you people assume things without ever investigating them..

reguardless if you have made it or not.

I hold this as a fact of life because thats what it is if you do the research.

the games joint operations, GTA san andreas, and starwars galexies hold the records for the largest "zone" based terrain. which is equal to 15 SCALED (very important factor here) kilometers.

the game boiling point holds the record for having the same as a persistant world where it never loads.

do the research people and you would know this factor of size has a lot to do with collision detection, file size, enviromental "feel".

PROVE ME WRONG.

don't just sit there like a total fool like you have any clue what you are talking about and acting like a god damn forum troll GET A funking CLUE DIPSHIT!!

25x25km

Is the biggest I could find.. I wasn't stating this to be cruel or hurtful or anything like that.

I was stating it to be helpful I didn't know how to do it and felt any information I had would be helpful.

then here is your responce..

the overall size in an "Engine" I could find is from the creators of boiling point an engine they sold and no game has been built with yet.

joint operations map sizes are very collision effective however due to map size of 4x4km or larger the game feels very empty most of the time and isn't of the caliber maps in MANY other games are.

you can "Bet" all you like but that usually involves you losing something like money and proves nothing that helps no one. your false assumtions have made a total fool of you and the poster of this thread.

The size of the nessesary terrain is directly related to the detail of it's texture in relation to the Models of the game... these are all factors of "Scale"

Your 8x8 terrain thingy sounds awsome... however how somebody puts that into a game for use directly relates to the scale of the game.

Therefor the actual size of your terrain could be equal to that of an entire continent or a 8 block city.. depending on different design factors as well.

As you can see EQ is just under the size of a single swg world. the size of each swg world shown here is 16x16. But as you probably already know, the devs made about 0.5km around the edge of each world impassable so the actual exploration size is 15x15!!!
That's exactly what I said more or less.

Good Work proving me correct thank you.
