TerrainRendering DX9 bug!

Post by mrbrdo »

Hello

I'm not sure if this is just something with my system, but when i compile and run the TerrainRendering example (i use Code::Blocks - the MinGW compiler), if i use the OpenGL driver it works great, but if i use DirectX 9.0c, i see triangles which "bleed" trough. I played a lot of games that use DirectX and i never had any problem like this. When i don't use DirectX this doesn't happen. Here's a pic:

Can someone else try too please, if they have the same problem? Any idea what this could be?

It's probably a driver problem. Try updating your drivers.

I didn't have any problems with any game that use DirectX though (World of Warcraft, Unreal Tournament 2004...) at all - no glitches whatsoever. Does the example work for you if you use directx 9.0c?

Note i'm using DirectX 10 (WinVista) - but it does work flawlessly with all games i've tried.

get some time to show my results:
as you see i have cheap Radeon X200M and it renders using Direct3D9 driver very ok.

Your video card looks like has artifacts. it is possible from many reasons:
- possible not enough cooling to you system ( hardware );
- your video card is over clocked ( memory frequency or GPU );
- your processor over clocked ( but it would hand the system from time to time );
- you have got some trouble with FPU ( kind of mathematic processor );

P.S.: The best way to check is to pass all tests couple of times using some latest 3D Mark ( like 2005 or later, i don't know ). As I know it has free trial period.

I'm getting bugs like that in the SVN running DirectX 9.0c,

no problems with openGL driver, and no problems with any other game in directx,

I compiled irrlicht with the MinGW compiler in Code::Blocks too, so maybe its not a problem with irrlicht?

It could be a problem with MinGW (or Code::Blocks in general too) and Irrlicht, because like Luke i have no problems with any other games using DX 9.0c. You guys might want to look into this.
Like i said i REALLY doubt there is a problem with my system hardware-wise, because i have no such problems in any games\apps that utilize DX9.0c. My system is not overclocked in any way either.

Does the terrain example binary work for you? And which library and conversion method do you use to get a working DX9 support for Irrlicht with mingw?

Are you using a nvidia card and the latest drivers, and running in windowed mode?

there's some kind of wierd timing problem with nvidia's latest drivers-

http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=16507
http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=16735

i haven't managed to work out why it happens though :(

bitplan: yes to all. well, i'm not quite sure if i have the latest nvidia drivers. Btw i'm no expert but as far as i thought terrain wasn't particles.. The thread you linked talks about flickering only with particles. That's from dxdiag:
Main Driver: nvd3dum.dll
Version: 7.15.0010.9685 (English)
Date: 9.10.2006 21:55:00
WHQL Logo'd: Yes
DDI Version: 9Ex

i'm also using windows vista but i don't think it has much to do with anything because i don't experience any problems with other applications (eg games) that use DirectX, not even in windowed mode (tried with World of Warcraft for example).
btw pop in to irc already :)
