(At the very end I explain how to import an OBJ and link to a good import/export script.Related as many people import their OBJs into Blender. So to be able to animate and expot as x.)

Psionic3d tutorials for Milkshape modelling, uv mapping, also for Character Fx rigging(asigning bones and weights) and animation. Nice ones.
New tutorial for Wings3d (modelling tool) + Character Fx (15$ comercial tool for animation of character models(humans, creatures, etc) ).Not from Pisonic, but looks very good, too.
Yet though, if you're patient and dedicated, for animation is better Blender than Milkshape and Character fx. Those two are just easier and ...comercial. But imo less powerful than Blender. character Fx has weights and Milkshape hasn't milkshape has modelling , while Character Fx only animates. So, good idea to model with Milkshape or Wings3d, animate with Character Fx.
I keep recomending strongly Wings3d as a modeller. (Metasequoia LE is very good too, but for license, not usable for comercial projects. Really easy to learn, really powerful modeller. )

Autouv is Wings internal solution for Uv mapping. Quite easy, though u don't have the control like in the comercial Ultimate Unwrap, or in Blender.but it's easy, and inside wings3d.

Anyway, for me the key in uv mapping for games is Lithunwrap or Ultimate Unwrap. Ultimate unwrap, ~40$ www.unwrap3d.com (imo is the way to go)

Lightmaps
Great tutorial and art path invented by Afecelis, which allows to make a level in Gmax, and export , even with lightmaps, towards a quake3 BSP level.And this without needing to have Quake3 game.
It ends as a level lightmapped i n irrlicht , and with 0$ cost

GMAX cool trick
I don't use Gmax, but for those who do...
Trick for copying and pasting all the content of listener in once instead of in several pargraphs (when using any Gmax script to export ) :
Select all with mouse left button pressed, all the window till the scroll reach the end....
without releasing the the left button, press the right mouse button...the typical floating menu appears....without releasing the left mouse button, right click over "copy"....voilà...you have it the huge thing in the clipboard...open your word processor, wordpad, notepad or whatever, and paste the text there...
EDIT: the last right click maybe is not needed, and in some oses it may not work...after the first right click, perhaps just releasing the left mose over "copy", will copy the thing....
EDIT2: Improved and fixed. So to select text way much quicker :
