Greetings fellow earthlings,
anyone know of any good blender tutorials orientated towards game level design?
Specifically designing outdoors-y natural sort of environments and texturing them etc... making natural curvy sort of surfaces (like the earth/ground or cliffs and rocks) and avoiding repetitive texturing and obvious seams between textures, things like that.
I know the basics, I can create boxy sort of things with distinctly separate textures fine
The nearest thing I found myself is this: http://otothecleaner.free.fr/tutorials/ ... el2-1.html
but as you can see it is urban and boxlike.
P.S. the Apricot project videos are looking pretty awesome, almost tempted to try out Crystal Space again
Blender game level art tutorials?
crystal space = the devil.....
Anyways the best way i can say to learn how to use blender is to actually customize it to your liking i found that its much easier to learn if you like the layout.
The second is do a few of the tutorials in the wiki then start modeling small things and work your way up has for level design model the individual objects of the level then put them all toghether

Hmm, so it might require hard work. Something I had not anticipatedThe second is do a few of the tutorials in the wiki then start modeling small things and work your way up Smile has for level design model the individual objects of the level then put them all toghether
Maybe I don't need the focus on game level art then... maaaaybe... I need a good blender texturing tutorial. Or a tutorial on the artistic aspect... Hmmmmmmmmm.
A separate thing, but does anyone remember the link to a couple of blender tutorials that were posted recently? I'm sure some were but I can't find them. Possibly one was about lightmapping in blender? (not Gandaldfs one though)
Here's some good blender stuff, that I use.
Video tutorials: http://www.blender.org/education-help/video-tutorials/
Blender Noob to Pro: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro
BlenderArt Magazine: http://www.blenderart.org/issues/
The video tutorials will give you a basis to do some intermediate-advanced modeling, and then use Noob to Pro as basically a reference to anything you would like to know about.
The BlenderArt Magazine has 16 insane issues which cover some of the hot topics that most people want to learn with Blender, and I highly recommend you download all of them. They are free, huge, and in .PDF format.

yeah, the magazine site looks pretty impressive.
maybe someone has the guts to create something like that for irrlicht, that would really be impressive, though.
i could donate some demo scenes created in blender to get that going.
heyyy, (lightbulb on top of my head) what if we compile our blender artwork and see if we can make something out from it. sort of like a shared artwork site for irrlicht game developers.
anyway...going back to sober mode...later.

For level design in general, you want want to consult a level design article. Level design is much more than just the art that the player sees, it is very much a part of the design of the game itself. A poorly designed level will break a game, no matter how pretty it is
