Mechwarrior Battlegrounds

Post by Devion »

Since yesterday MWBG (Mechwarrior Battlegrounds) has been recoded in VB.NET in combination with IrrLicht.

Mechwarrior Battlegrounds is an isometric-view action game. Players battle out in their customized Mechanized Assault units against each other or in a team. The key point is multiplayer. There will be no single player activities in Mechwarrior Battlegrounds.

A player will always have control of its mech and cannot control any other unit whatsoever. Players are able to customize/fine-tune their mechanized assault vehicle (From now on ‘Mech’) from a number of template mechs. With these mechs, they enter the battlegrounds in a number of different missions including but not limited to Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Assault, Capture the Flag and a few more. :)

The project is currently in it's infant stage with now the terrain rendering up, isometric camera is working barely and we got 1 mech mesh which (snif) isn't animated but will work for testing out features

We had a 3 man dev. team which of one left the team due to not being to work with .NET. So we are in desperate need of some good IrrLicht gurus (and modellers) :)

No project page yet; Most of the discussions were on VBForums @ http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php? ... t&t=357807

Sounds cool I've been thinking about making a mech game but I'm not familure with .net and I'm sure my ideas would be different.

One Tip, before you get the same problems as i got with a Mechwarrior clone. Choose another name for it. After Microsoft has gotten the Rights on the name they dont like if any other is using it.

Also, you can use Mech but without the Warrior. if you use both words microsoft is geting crazy...

Actually the IP of Mechwarrior/Battletech lies with WizKidsgames not Microsoft. I've mailed WizKidsgames with the request to use their property for a freeware game. (No problem so far.. but then again.. big companies change minds in less then 10 secs)

Changing the gamename isn't the hardest so at this stage I'll just call it the Project name and not the final release name ;)

Anyway; Any modellers around and/or VB.NET coders with understanding of IrrLicht (having some small little annoyance atm)

yup, change the name. Too easy to have probs later on when change is more hard to do.

BTW, I'm very interested in vb.net. I just have almost no ability(well, no ability) to code, but I liked vb6 (i'd love that somehow it would have survived) , so I guess I'll try to learn the same very tiny bits of code I learnt to do with vb6...
Finally making games again!

bit offtopic but, convert your vb6 code to vb.net and check out the changes.. you'll learn a bit about vb.net that way :)

I'm in the horrible stage that I code VB.NET for MWBG and VB6 @ work :x

on topic: I guess it will be called CC or "Battlegrounds for the thingies that look like they came from some popular games" :D
