Any chance of .SWF playing capabilities?

Post by Justin Savidge »

Probably a long shot, but maybe someone could implement the Macromedia Flash Player to be able to play SWF animations within Irrlicht, for example an introduction screen or an in-game element?

I have some really cool ideas if this were to be used, and maybe an official Irrlicht splash screen for devs to throw into their projects? I plan to make one.

I would have a go at coding it myself, but my C++ skills are lets say, frightening and I'm more of a conceptual administrator, not a coding administrator. :P

And that hosting package is still up there to those who would like it!

There is already a public domain library for this. It's called gameswf and you can access it here: http://tulrich.com/geekstuff/gameswf.html

Hope this helps :)

Well there are limitations to gameswf, it doesn't implement all of ActionScript (only what the author has needed so far) and it doesn't play audio files (that's left as an exercise for the underlyinig game-engine). Though it should do for simple GUI interfaces...

There was already some discussion of this very same topic in this very same forum, though I don't think anything came of it...
