DirectX Exporter

Post by disanti »

Hey, can someone email me a working copy of the DirectX Exporter for 3ds max? I've been using Panda Exporter but it doesn't export to text correctly. Binary seems to load fine in MView but text doesn't :?

Thanks, my email is johndisanti[fat]santiproductions.com.do.not.spam
(replace the [fat] with @ and delete .do.not.spam

Thanks!

You also could reexport it with mview from binary to text.

But it should work..panda exporter surely is largely tested, as Max has quite a huge user base...and is said to wrk pretty well, better than the ms exporter for max....It has more features, also.

But sure is nto your fault. The more settings a exporter has, the more possibility of something having a problem.

@Niko, I hadn't seen till today you updated the features explanation on animation field. Outstanding! :) in th edirectx format, the coder can even link the weapon with just a line of code! :)

Anothe rthing...i have a rigged (i did not remeber...that if I am not wrong , was rigged. Was gonna be for sprite rendering, so is not detailed, and texture is just plane color...was humoristic, but is not bad modelled) model, I am not talking of animating it, but as it's rigged, I could put some poses for some movemnets (not walk or anything cyclic) ...I say just if you want t oput the engine to th extreme, hehe., As it's 10, 000 triangle scount, quite heavy.

Was for rendering a sprite of 100 pixels, for 2d use, that's why it didn't matter.

If i find it, is a cfx file, rigged already, and the -cough- texture attached. I could pose it in a pair of keyframes, and export the movement..so you could punish your engine a bit... ;)

Well, a crazy idea I had, the coffee had something strange today... ;)

-wow- I came wildly off topic..too lazy to open other thread...

btw, Disanti :

check if is this: the compressed thing. I havent used Panda exporter, neither mview or skinned mesh view form MS, no more than basicly, so I dunno how it is done.

But soemtimes, a software wont understand the compressed tag of a file. So check carefully th esetting, and remove compressed, as is the ponly i dould think of now.

The Panda exporter says it supports "Text/Binary Mode/Compressed X file "

I've tried reexporting from mview and it doesn't work :(

What is up with the .x format?! Doesn't like my scientist :(

I have NEVER had luck getting my characters into games. Don't know why :?
MD2 never worked, and now X isn't working either. May as well make my own format :P

I had some troubles loading files created with the panda exporter as well. I have not used the microsoft exporter. I have tried many different models and feature enabled disable. Irrlicht never seems to display any .X files. But maybe I am doing something wrong.

I will stick with my 3DS files they work fine for me. :D

Hey, I have Ultimate unwrap, and also many other software.

pass me the animated model you want to make it work...

OH!

Now that I think...you have it in Max...then, please, go to www.unwrap3d.com at download section, download the max5_extras.zip (75 KB)

http://www.unwrap3d.com/downloads.html

...then just extract the files from the zip, and copy the plugin at your max PLUGINS folder. If Max was loaded, exit and restart it.

This way, you are ready (yep, not even having purchased Ultimate Unwrap! :D ) to save files in U3D format. So you send me the u3d format,(and the texture/s) and I export as directx8 OK?

This could be dangerous...as I know irlitch works well with the export of character Fx , not sure with ultimate's, but ultimate works perfect with Deep Exploration demo import, so, should do. :)

I have even ms skinnedmeshview, so I can check there, too. :)

I'll PM you now with my address so you can email me the model, if you wish so.

I never had a problem with md2... (I don't use irllitch engine as I am not a coder .I am powerfully attracted by its possibilities, as an artist)

people, be patient. Directx8 format supports weights and many other stuff. Is a great advance, trust me.

sent the PMs

I'll check my inboxes later...

heck, now I gotta check the two webmails I passed you, plus my forum inbox... ;)

You can reach 2 mb each one, but please, no more.I gave you 2 emails, so it'd be harder that you fill my account.

Ok, I will pm you 3 now. :)

Just send me your models (don't worry, I am an artist, and I quite proud as to use another one's models. Also quite sure about my own ability (maybe too m uch ;) )) ...in u3d format as I explained above. Is only downloading that zip, copying at your max plugins folder, and exporting it from your max.

please, no one should pass of 1 mb file compressed, or I'll have a problem to receive them.

Compress it with winzip in maximum compression, or better, 7-zip. (I can open 7z format)

We will try then Ultimate Unwrap directx8 export. It MUST work... :)

I'll see if I can install the full discreet demo of Max 6 they have at the front page, though, and see and make my own tries with the panda exporter (blieve me, these days I've got real curiosity to see how is it failing, if it is doing so, really.)

well...Bappy, I'll answer you here. All of you. For easiness and sharing tests.

you sent me just a box, with a bone attached, and it is loading ok in ultimate unwrap , also in skinned mesh viewer from ms sdk of dx9.

the dark texture, the dark material color (this is not the texture, is a material property) could be drawing quite dark the thing in your code, so that if ur loading against a dark wall, you just not be seing it as it all get messed in the dark...

also...the scale. It maybe scaled quite large (so as to get out of clipping plane) or quite small, so that u don't even see it...

this things tend to happen...

hmmm..I really would need a proven to be valid irrlitch engine x viewer, as I don't have irlitch installed, nor will I as I wouldn't know how to handle.- remember:only an artist-

as for what i see, all loads ok here...

niko, do you have some sort of dx viewer made with irlitch code...?

I am sending you, Bappy, the Ultimate Unwrap exported x mesh...several of them.

Try them, and see which loads ok, or if all load ok. Bu also consider the other posibilities I mentioned in this post.

consider this also...

panda exporter http://www.pandasoft.demon.co.uk/directxmax4.htm

may be you downloaded a version not compatible with your max and /or character studio....

see that in downloads are several versions. I dont know if max5 & cs 3.4 is compatible with max5 and cs 4.1 (ultimate unwrap is)

it should though work with the beta , if you have max6, and cs4.2. But it is that , a beta.

at the end, it all must work.

ok...some discoverings so far, also with the help of Bappy and disanti..

Seems Ultimate Unwrap, and Character Fx, make an export that works in Irllittch.(indeed, you can import a cfx exported x file into Ultimate, too.)

We are having problems though with Pand exporter. A pitty, being max (specially 5 and newer) and cs (specially 4.1 and newer) the quickest and best way to animate -of the most known tools, I mean-

I have installed a demo of 5, full for 30 days, from a -expensive- magazine...

I am downloading also max 6 trial with cs4.2, from discreet.

First I'll try with the 5..later with 6.

It MUST work.

Anyway, I am covered, having Ultimate Unwrap and Character Fx (and dreaming of AOI and Blender get their plugins) ..this is mostly for max users here. And for Irlitch, itself, of course.

ho-ho-ho...

here I come...

i have found new x exporters for max...

max3, 4, 5, 6

maybe no cs supported...I just don't know...

may that max trial solve my doubts...

also there's the links to, maya, lw, XSI...x exporters. Some links seem not to work, but max ones do.

http://www.quest3d.com/index.php?id=102

I found in a forum, someone said it's less featured than Panda, but has no bugs...

You never know. Everybody likes panda, so I'll yet be giving a try to both before guessing which one rocks.
