Recommended Modeller & Format (for Mac!)

Post by macdonag »

Hi, I'm using Irrlicht on a mac. I've been using wings3d to create some simple models, in obj format. What are the preferred modellers & formats for Irrlicht? I understand obj doesn't support alpha models, so that would be a problem. Also, I don't like Blender:-)

Thanks for your opinions.

well, u already said the two best free options..;) tehre's macosx updated for both...

comercial tools, there's Cinema4d, I think, for Mac. And that one is very cool. Not good for game formats, tho. Blender wins in that area.

Then, I suppose, being java based, you could run well Art of illusion...

...but in general, a pitty u dont like blender. I'd prefer other UI too, but you'll face sooner or later is th emost powerful for free...as a complete tool, not as an specialized tool (hehe)
Finally making games again!

There are others for Mac like Luxology's Modo, but it's a bit expensive. But if you dig the interface, blender could be your solution, it can do almost everything the big pros do. It all depends on the artist's skills.

Just a couple more programs taken from the Wiki

3D Matrix

and the fairly old ClayScape3D

can't say if they are any good though.
system-independent, adj.:
Works equally poorly on all systems.

Could Use some version of Maya.

I am unsure if Maya Personal Learning Edition supports the file types you'll need. But its definitely the best modeling and Animation solution on the OSX.
