Instead of i++ loops, I would use sleep() - it will suspend current thread, giving more cpu to others, however, please be noted, you will suspend any input event handlers too....
But what is the real "issue" except of increased fan speed (which is normal for graphic application) ?

Controller ... it is a joystick device (stick, flight yoke, wheel, gamepad ... anything that's visible in Windows-control panel-game controllers).
