Internet Explorer and Netscape use completely different rendering engines; Netscape uses Gecko now, Internet Explorer uses Trident. The original Netscape was based on work by NCSA Mosaic, if I remember correctly.

The game's basis is its story. I am completely bored of the countless hoards of lifeless FPS games with little/no storyline. Game saving is definitely no problem...but save hoarders will be disappointed because there's no in-level saving. You can only save between levels. This forces the player to d...

Neither the license nor the cost are issues for me anyways, so that's not a big deal. I'm more concerned with performance. A colleague of mine also suggested Newton so I think I'm going to go with that.

Any suggestions for a nice fast physics library? I don't need realtime boob animation ;) but something decent that doesn't shave 50fps off of the engine would be good...

Well, I'll explain a little bit of how it works right now. Attacking in the game relies on magic rings that the character wears on his finger. There are six rings total, each with varying strength, speed, number of shots, and charge use. "Ammo" in this game is magic charges, and there's bu...

What technical features do you expect to find in a FPS?

As with many people here on the Irrlicht forum, I'm in the process of developing an FPS game. Although the nature of the game is very uncommon (most FPS games rely on guns, only a handful don't, and mine is in that handful that doesn't), I am interested in knowing what features the average player lo...

I help war and famine by making video games.

My video games are violent, which calms the need to commit aggressive acts...war is reduced.

My video games are inexpensive, which means people can buy them and still have money for food...famine is reduced.

The shading (Especially on the pillar things) looks very flat. Why not take advantage of Irrlicht's easy to use parallax mapping? Also for the lava a lava texture with a water animated hillplane wont hurt one bit. (Although a great alternative is the lava shader that can be found somewhere in code ...

The original raycaster version did not use Irrlicht but a custom DirectDraw-based engine. The screenshots above are normal Irrlicht scenes, the geometry is just very very basic at the moment.

Wow, I'm surprised my post is still here. :D I've been working, although I've had other projects as priority. Only recently did Two Lords start on its real journey in the ways of Irrlicht. I can now finally post a couple of super-early prototype shots. http://www.nodtveidt.net/twolords-itsabouttime....

I usually recommend Ubuntu for new Linux users, and then Arch Linux for when they have a good understanding of Linux.
